My Dad

Me and my dad, summer 1993

Dad, ever since November, when you were diagnosed with cancer, I have been begging the Lord not to take away my daddy! I thank the Lord for answered prayer. During the last few months, my mind has been spinning and thinking about my life and how wonderful it was. Then I started wondering if I had ever told you how thankful I am for you (and mom too). I wrote this poem for you, dad. I love you so much!!!

My Dad

With mortality staring us straight in the face,

All the thoughts in my brain started to race.

My mind went back to days of the past

And I realized that time has gone by so fast.

Have I told you enough? To myself I did think.

Had I told you at all? My heart began to sink.

Thank you for giving my mother your heart,

For the love you two share that never will part.

Thank you for reading your Bible every morn;

And for calling me pretty, no matter what I adorned.

Thank you for all the sacrifices made,

For the stand that you took, all the bills that you paid.

Thank you for teaching me to love missionaries near and far,

And, of course, for teaching me how to drive a car.

Thank you for letting me play Barbies in your shed,

And showing me how to spread peanut butter on bread.

Thanks for singing while the piano I would play,

And for teaching me how to love, honor and obey.

Thank you for helping me when I was all on my own

With three little babies, and no place to call home.

Thank you for my brother, though he often was a jerk;

He had some really cute friends so that was one good perk.

So much time has passed by - it's precious as a pearl,

But no matter what, I'm still Daddy's little girl.
